It all started a few weeks before Thanksgiving. We met another couple, Linda and Jody, who live off the grid and we immediately connected on many levels. It is quite rare to meet couples who live off the grid, so this is very, very special to me.
Immediately the ladies decide we will have Thanksgiving dinner together! Thanksgiving is Strat’s favorite holiday and to celebrate the end of harvest with like-minded friends is an added bonus. We planned on seafood as our main course, crab and shrimp specifically.
As the big day approaches, Linda sends me a note to “add nutcrackers for the crab to my list.” It’s been a crazy few months and a lot of uncertainty in life. That is my “excuse” for what the story I’m about to share with you (and yes, I’m sticking to it).
I must admit, Linda and I previously talked about nutcrackers. It was my job to bring them, which you would think would be a simple task. When I received her message however, the furthest thing from my mind was the tool used for cracking nuts and crab. I pondered, why on Earth would she want nut crackers for the crab. Seriously, this was the conversation I was having with myself. Well, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Strat and I go to the local Safeway and lo and behold, I found nut crackers. I was feeling pretty good about the fact that they were gluten free. OK, I was a little proud that I could even find nut crackers, I mean, who knew?
I get back out to the truck and apparently Strat must have thought I lost it. We don’t buy this sort of item and he found it odd. But, he did not question me; women are always right, even when we are wrong, eh?? LOL!
It’s now Thanksgiving morning. DUH! I now realize my mistake! Nutcrackers vs nut crackers. Oh no! All week long I’ve had it wrong. Well, I was able to dig up a pair of nutcrackers and Linda had one as well. So, all in all, it worked out. We had a fantastic dinner, amazing conversation and a good laugh!
